Basic
Beliefs of First Church of God
Through
the avenues of preaching, teaching, and singing the Church of God has
consistently affirmed that the written source of what we believe is the
Bible. We have attempted to remain Biblically-based without becoming
creedal. The Bible is central in our teaching ministry.
What
are some of the key doctrines that we proclaim?
We believe in one God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and
of all things visible and invisible – Genesis 1.
We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God,
begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very
God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the
Father, by whom all things were made – John 1:1-14.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds
from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is
worshipped and glorified – John 16:5-16.
We believe that all scripture in inspired by God and is the authority for
the Christian life – II Timothy 3:14-17.
We believe in conversion which is the renewal of life at its deepest level
through repentance and trust in the forgiveness of Christ – Acts
2:36-39.
We believe that
conversion places us in the church and that no other
formalities are necessary – Acts 2:47.
